The Clementine Dress is inspired by the beauty of a field of flowers washed in a rich sunset. It is made of a floral-printed lace over a layer of shimmering orange polysatin, with an invisible zipper closure in the back. The square neck and puffed sleeves give the dress a very romantic feel, telling the story of a young woman roaming the cobbled streets of Amsterdam.
The illustration of the Clementine Dress reflects a modern styling of a classic sillhouette, playing the romance of the dress with the eccentric modernity of the bright yellow platform boots and matching cuff bracelet.
For this dress, I wasn't able to find bias tape in the color I needed to finish the garment, so I had to resort to making my own. I used the same polysatin as in the body of the dress to cut 2 inch-wide strips of fabric on the bias, painstakingly ironed the ribbons into quarters, sewed on the bias tape by first attaching it to the outside of the garment and then securing it on the inside. This dress marked both the first I time I used bias tape and the first time I created it myself.
